Greenleaf Announces Local Grants to Help Prevent Underage
Drinking
WILLOW GROVE—Today, State Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf
(R-Montgomery / Bucks) announced that the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board
(PLCB) has awarded $11,436.00 to Gwynedd Mercy College and $10,000.00 to the
Upper Dublin Township Police to curb underage drinking.
The grants will fund a wide range of activities including: law
enforcement training and efforts, the development of collegiate environmental
management strategies, and other prevention programs.
The PLCB's Bureau of Alcohol Education received a
total of one hundred and three applications for the 2008 / 2009 grant cycle.
The Board's commitment of $700,000 will be disseminated to sixty-eight entities
across the state.
"These grants are critical in aiding our community
partners in preventing underage drinking," said Senator Greenleaf. "I look
forward to great success resulting from the combination of education and strong
law enforcement. Underage drinking kills, and I thank the Pennsylvania Liquor
Control Board for their support and Gwynedd Mercy College and the Upper Dublin
Police for their efforts to stop underage drinking."
