Senator Greenleaf Announces H2O PA Grants for Local
Municipalities
Today, State Senator
Stewart J. Greenleaf (R, Montgomery, Bucks) announced the approval of H2O PA
funding for critical water and sewer projects in Hatfield, Warminster, Horsham,
and Montgomery Townships, and North Wales Borough.
The Commonwealth
Financing Authority received 728 applications from across Pennsylvania totaling
$2.6 billion in funding requests, and the board approved $500 million in
projects.
Funding is approved based
on a competitive scoring system with priority given to projects subject to a
court order, agency order, or consent decree necessitating improved
environmental protections. Priority is also given to projects involving
consolidation and other regional projects.
H2O PA was created by Act
63 of 2008 to fund water and sewer projects, as well as storm water projects,
flood control projects, and high hazard dam repairs.
The funding is provided
through an $800 million bond financed by five percent of gaming revenue
deposited in the Pennsylvania Gaming and Economic Development and Tourism Fund.
To be eligible for
funding, a project must be owned by a municipality or authority, and must
include local matching funds. The Commonwealth Financing Authority will
evaluate applications, with the Department of Environmental Protection and the
Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority providing technical review and
assistance.
"I am very pleased that these local
projects will receive funding," said Senator Greenleaf. "These
improvements are critical to protecting the environment and providing residents
with the most critical of resources."
The following projects have
been approved for funding in the 12th Senatorial District:
Hatfield Township: The Flow
Equalization Tank Project involves the construction of two 4-million gallon
surge tanks.
North Wales Borough: The
project will involve upgrades to the existing wastewater treatment facility in
an effort to meet the new discharge requirements.
Warminster Township:
Replacement of deteriorating and asbestos-cement piping and adding a shut off
valve to the water system to provide a consistent water source for the residents
and improve emergency services.
Horsham Township: Upgrading
and expanding the Park Creek Sewage Treatment Plant and the construction of the
Area B pump station.
Montgomery Township: Various
sewage system upgrades.
